WIPO has awarded JSC "Dzintars" and I.Gerchikov!

On 21st of November World Intellectual Property Organisation, which is the agency of United Nation Organisation, has triumphantly presented 2 awards. WIPO Trophy for Innovative Enterprises was presented to the Joint Stock Society “Dzintars”, and golden medal – WIPO Award for Inventors – was presented to Ilya Gerchikov, inventor and chairman of the Board of JSC Dzintars.

WIPO awards contribute in stimulation of inventive and innovative activities in all around the World. These awards were acknowledged worldwide as ones of the most prestigious prizes of those presented to inventors.

Triumphant event was organised by the Patent Office and Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was opened by the Patent Office Director Zigrīds Aumeisters. He expressed his happiness for the fact that WIPO had highly evaluated JSC Dzintars and I.Gerchikov deserts and had presented the two most prestigious awards of the Organization.

The Awards were presented by Saule Tlevlessova – the WIPO representative for European and Asian countries cooperation – who announced that she was very glad to present the World Intellectual Property Organisation awards to enterprise with production based on new technologies and innovations and to a person who is not just a simple manager, but also is an inventor and new technology developer. She particularly emphasized that the enterprise not just registered more than 160 patents, but also introduced them into real production.

Yuris Ekmanis the Director of Academy of Sciences in his address said some good words concerning the successes of the enterprise. Mr. Ekmanis emphasized that already in the year 1999, when the Academy of Sciences initiated the creation of Latvian inventors data base, I.Gerchikov was one of the first persons introduced in it.

Andris Gutmanis, Director General of Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, mentioned that among more than 1200 members of Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dzintars is on of the most recognisable enterprises on the international market. He also paid attention to the fact that innovations and patents increase the value of enterprise and are significant not only for the enterprise itself, but also for the economy of the country as a whole.

The address of Ilmar Rimshevich, the President of the Bank of Latvia, included the idea that in spite of the prevailing opinion that only negative trends take place in the economy of Latvia, in reality some examples of local manufacturing enterprises successful development do exist, and one of them is JSC Dzintars.

Enterprise’s innovative merits and their significance for Latvian economy development were remarked in the address of Olga Zeile, the Director of Sectoral Policy Department for the Ministry of Justice.

Mr. Antanas Vinkus, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, expressed the congratulations from the face of the diplomatic corps broadly represented on the event by the representatives of such countries like: Switzerland; Austria; France; Uzbekistan; Israel; Russia; Czech Republic; Azerbaijan; Lithuania; Moldova; Byelorussia; the Ukraine; Holland. The Prime Minister of Lithuania also expressed the words of congratulation on the event.

Valdis Zatlers, the President of the Republic of Latvia, sent his congratulations to the enterprise staff and to I.Gerchikov personally. In his congratulations he wrote:

“Dear guests of the World Intellectual Property Organisation award ceremony!

Dear winners receiving these significant awards!

I want to congratulate Joint Stock Company “Dzintars” and inventor Ilya Gerchikov with this important and worldwide admitted evaluation of Your work. This one more time corroborates that in our state we have enterprises and people who can proudly bring the name of Latvia to the World through their achievements and results of their work. These awards one more time demonstrate the intellectual potential of our people, the abilities to perform their duties and abilities to develop the ideas of the highest level. I am sure that the received award will become another serious impetus to work and to create, to perfect the activities and to bring the name of Latvia to the World. Good luck to all of us who acts for the good of Latvia, who works for the good of Latvia and who lives in the prosperous Latvia!”

The congratulations were also received from the Chairman of the 9th Saeima of the Republic of Latvia – Mr. Gundars Daudze. The Chairman of Saeima wrote:

“Dear mister Gerchikov and the employees of Joint Stock Company “Dzintars”!

With honour and joy I congratulate You with this high-level international recognition – with the awarding of golden medal of WIPO Award for Inventors and WIPO Trophy for Innovative Enterprises award, which corroborates the significance of Your contribution into the development of innovations and its distinguished practical application in the manufacturing process. I, being the President of the Republic of Latvia, feel particular pleasure that our state by the evaluation of World Intellectual Property Organisation takes worthy place by the level of innovation development and by the presented award number, head-to-head with such highly developed states as Germany, USA and Switzerland. I am sure that such prestigious awarding will increase the recognition of Latvia image as the state with high intellectual potential and efficient innovation development. Thank You for Your contribution and congratulate You from all my heart with these high-level awards. I wish to JSC “Dzintars” further development and enrichment of Latvian innovative potential!”

The ceremony could be considered as very official without the touching congratulation expressed by the oldest employee of JSC Dzintars Anton Smalchuk, who is working on the enterprise already for 50 years.

In his responsive speech Mr. Gerchikov said that for Dzintars, these awards became a complete unexpectedness. It is especially pleasant that these awards were presented by such significant International organisation with a years-long history of intellectual property and innovation protection and evaluation. Because it is very important to hear “thanks” for your job! He emphasized especially that these awards are the merits of all the personnel of the enterprise. Dzintars survived these days, it grows and develops. The enterprise is equipped with advanced and modern facilities, and in the nearest future Dzintars will step on the conceptually new stage of development.
